Operational Leaders Programme
You've been promoted because you're good at what you do. That's the problem.
The skills that got you here — technical expertise, delivering results, being the person with the answers — are not the skills that will make you effective at the next level. Leadership is a different job. Most people find that out the harder way.
The Operational Leaders Programme (OLP) is designed for leaders who are ready to make that transition deliberately, not by trial and error.
Most operational leaders are promoted into roles that nobody properly prepares them for. The job changes — from leading a team to leading other leaders, from solving to asking, from delivering to developing others. The P&P Operational Leaders Programme gives you the frameworks, the tools, and a cohort of peers working through the same transition. Three days that change how you lead for the next decade.
Sound Familiar?
You're responsible for outcomes your teams’ deliver — but you're still the one the leaders come to when something breaks. You know you should be delegating more, but it's faster to just sort it yourself. You've got people issues you've been meaning to address. Your diary runs you rather than the other way around. Strategy meetings happen above you and execution happens below you — and you're in the middle trying to hold it together.
That's operational leadership. And it's harder than anyone tells you before you step into it. Operational Leaders are focused on the “way” things need to get done:
Leading leaders and leading across the organisation.
Ensuring that organisational processes are effectively carried out on a day-to-day basis.
Monitoring performance, addressing shortfalls and creating accountability.
Anticipating and overcoming constraints, roadblocks, people challenges.
Empowering employees to understand what needs to be done by providing the authority, knowledge, and skills to do it.
Implementing strategy and championing change.
What changes
Leaders who complete the OLP consistently come out the other side with a clearer sense of where they want to go — and a realistic plan for getting there. They stop avoiding the difficult conversations they've been putting off. They start delegating with intention rather than anxiety. The make the connections between strategy and execution meaningful. They can unpack and solve problems, and make better decisions as a result. They are able to lead change and hold their team leaders accountable without it feeling like a disciplinary process.
They also leave with something less tangible but just as valuable: a cohort of peers from outside their own organisation — leaders at the same stage, working through the same challenges — who will hold them honest long after the programme ends.
From our feedback from over 200 attendees from New Zealand’s most demanding industries - tech, construction, manufacturing, professional services and primary sector. The patterns are consistent. The shift from doing to leading is the most universal and most difficult transition in a leader's career. The OLP is built around accelerating it.
